STUDENT CARD 1

Тask 1

Give a talk about books.

Remember to say:

why people continue reading books nowadays;

what kinds of books are popular with Russian teenagers;

what book you would take with you to a desert island and why.

You have to talk for 1.5–2 minutes. The examiner will listen until you have finished. Then he/she will ask you some questions.

Task 2 (2–3 minutes)

You play the part of a student in an international language school. You meet your classmate Jane/Jack in the school lobby. He/she looks a bit worried.

Find out what your classmate is worried about.

Answer your classmate’s questions about people’s inventions that you consider important. Explain why.

Answer the questions about the sports popular in your country and the question about the Olympic Games of 2014.

Accept the invitation to see a tennis tournament. Ask about the time and the meeting place.

You begin the conversation. The examiner will play the part of your classmate.

what your home town looks like;

whether you have some favourite places in your home town, what they are;

what you would do for your home town if you were the President of our country.

Task 2 (2–3 minutes)

You play the part of a student in an international language school. You meet your school classmate Marta/Martin on campus. She/he looks a bit unhappy.

Answer the questions about your career plans.

Agree to fulfill your classmate’s request. Ask about the time and the meeting place.

Task 2 (2–3 minutes)

You play the part of a student in an international language school. You’ve got two tickets to a concert tomorrow. You have nobody to go with. You meet your classmate Nicolette/Nick on campus.

Invite your classmate to the concert.

Answer your classmate’s questions about your favourite musicians and music styles.

Answer the questions about places of interest in your country.

Accept the invitation to visit your classmate and her/his family. Mention that you are free after 6pm.

You play the part of a student in an international language school. You are waiting for your class in the school lobby when you notice your classmate Angela/Andrew working on her/his laptop computer.

Find out what she/he’s busy with.

Answer your classmate’s questions about what your home town is like (give a brief description of the place).

Answer the questions about your favourite means of transport.

Reject any invitation for the rest of the day. Give an excuse.

You play the part of a student in an international language school. The course is about to finish and you want to make a PowerPoint presentation about your group. You need to take some photos in class but you don’t have a camera. On campus you see your classmate Barbara/Bob who has a very good camera.

Ask your classmate to lend you her/his camera.

Answer your classmate’s questions about your school day in Russia.

Answer the questions about how young people in your city/town keep fit.

Reject the invitation to go to the cafeteria. Give an excuse.
